We continue to live our mission to develop Christian thought leaders—young people who think critically, act compassionately, and lead with faith. September was a month filled with growth, achievement, and gratitude throughout our school community.

First big news -Welcome Rory Monaghan! Our kindergarten teacher, Autumn and her husband, former Ascension middle school social studies teacher, Danny Monaghan, welcomed their first child earlier this month.

Our PTO launched and completed our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Easy Money Sweepstakes, which wrapped up the first week of October. Thanks to the incredible support of our families and parishioners, we sold close to 3,000 chances! The funds raised will go directly toward professional development for our faculty, technology for our students, and curriculum enhancements across all grades. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated PTO for their tremendous effort and stewardship in making this event a success.

Our students completed fall MAP testing in September, and we are thrilled to share that Ascension ranked among the top five schools in the Archdiocese in both reading and math. We achieved Blue Ribbon-level scores (85th percentile) in all grades for reading and in all but one grade in math—missing by just three points. We are extremely proud of our students’ focus, determination, and hard work during the three-week testing window. Our next MAP testing will take place in January.

The Kentucky Center for School Safety visited our campus in September. They commended Ascension as being among the very best schools in the state for our continuous efforts to improve safety—often using our school as an exemplar for others. They recommended a few upgrades to our exterior doors, including key fob and time-lock systems, which we plan to address soon. We will seek support for these important safety enhancements—and playground safety improvements—through our upcoming iGiveCatholic Campaign in November.

We are also seeking a new volunteer Athletic Director to continue the strong legacy of our athletics program. Our sincere gratitude to Jose Vega for his outstanding service over the past year. If you or someone you know is a parishioner interested in serving in this important role, please contact Nancy Marx at nmarx@ascensionparish.com.

Finally, please help us spread the word about our Open House on Monday, October 28, from 9:00am. to 8:00pm. Tours will be available at designated times— visit the Ascension Facebook page or email mpassons@ascension-parish.com to schedule a tour.

As always, we are deeply grateful for the continued love, prayers, and support of our parish community. Your partnership allows us to nurture faith, inspire learning, and strengthen the bonds that make Ascension Catholic School such a special place.

May God continue to bless our students, families, and parish as we grow together in faith, knowledge, and service. Terrence Mullaney, Principal

Ascension Community,

Please join us in congratulating our 5th/6th grade and both 7th/8th grade volleyball teams for winning their City Championships! 🏐💙💛

To celebrate this incredible achievement, all students are invited to wear Spirit Wear on Monday, October 27! Let’s show our school pride and celebrate our champions who represented Ascension so beautifully this season.

I also want to share a note of gratitude: I received several messages from fans of St. Nicholas praising our student-athletes and community for their kindness and compassion when one of their players was injured. Their words reflected what we see every day—students who live our mission “To Develop Christian Thought Leaders” through faith, character and love for others.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing volunteer coaches who give so much of their time and energy to our program: Kristin Jansen, Mary Kuerzi (Schneidtmiller – Ascension Class of 2018), Natalie Ising, Susan Simmons, Katie Poynter, and Suzy Stoffel.

Congratulations to our outstanding athletes: Caroline Jansen, Anna Jansen, Blakely Haden, Maya LaRosa, Stella Vincent, Rylie Flanders, Maggie McCulloch, Charlotte Cochran, Avery Farris, Emery Dwyer, Hannah Simon, Tori Phelps, Collins Cahoe, Maison Holzknecht, Ella O’Daniel, Amelia Smith, Lizzy Earley, Molly Gregory, Christa Ising, Emily Simmons, Maddie Yee, Lily Hartlage, Annmarie Mullin, Nanette Ridge, and Ella Amburgey.

We couldn’t be prouder of our teams, coaches, and community for representing Ascension with faith, heart, and class—on and off the court.
