Our mission, to develop Christian thought leaders, continues to guide everything we do—from the classroom to the community, and from faith formation to academic achievement. October was a month full of learning, joy, and examples of our students and staff living that mission each day.
Our Open House on October 28 was a tremendous success as we welcomed 32 families with 38 prospective students. Visitors experienced the strong sense of community, academic excellence, and Christ-centered environment that make Ascension so special. A heartfelt thank-you to our School Board members, who graciously served as event hosts, sharing their pride in our school and helping prospective families feel right at home.
Our 6th and 7th graders had a once-in-a-lifetime adventure during their Washington, D.C. trip, where they deepened their understanding of our nation’s history and values. From visiting the Capitol and monuments to reflecting on faith and leadership, the week was full of learning, laughter, and lasting memories.
Our 2nd graders participated in their Reconciliation Retreat on October 25, a joyful and prayerful day of crafts, reflection, and learning about the beauty of God’s forgiveness. Thank you to Mrs. Steltenpohl and Mrs. Tudor for planning this wonderful faith experience. Please keep our 2nd graders in your prayers as they prepare for their First Reconciliation on November 13.
Our Book Fair was another great success, netting nearly $5,000 for new classroom books and learning materials. Thank you to our families and volunteers who supported this effort—your generosity helps keep our students surrounded by the joy of reading.
Our PTO Trunk or Treat on October 24 was a night full of fun, creativity, and community spirit. We are grateful to our PTO for their continued dedication to bringing families together. Their next big event, Trivia Night, is coming up on Saturday, November 15. Tables are still available, and we encourage everyone to join in the fun and help make this evening another success. All proceeds go directly to supporting our students and teachers.
We were also proud to celebrate two dedicated teachers, Mrs. Trinity Bennett (Grades 3–5 Math) and Mrs. Barbara Wagner (Library and Technology), for reaching 10 years of service at Ascension. They were honored with a special lunch at The Olmsted for their faithful commitment to our mission and their incredible work with students.
It was also a record-breaking month for Ascension athletics. Our 5th/6th Grade Volleyball Team and both 7th/8th Grade Teams (#1 and #2) brought home City Championships, marking three city titles in one season. Congratulations to our student-athletes and coaches for their hard work and example of Christian sportsmanship both on and off the court.
Our Cross-Country team capped off an exceptional season with 19 Top Ten finishes across multiple meets. Led by standout runners Sam Neichter, Kate Baines, and Jack Back, and supported by strong performances from Annmarie Mullin, Addison Brockman, Grant Morris, and Finn Bates, the team showed remarkable growth and perseverance. Sam Neichter tied the school record in the 1200m (4:48), matching the mark previously set by Jack Back. The season concluded with impressive showings at the CSAA Championships and KTCCCA State Meet, where Kate Baines represented Ascension among Kentucky’s best.
Our #iGiveCatholic campaign kicks off this month, and we need your help. Last year, our community raised nearly $25,000, which allowed us to make the small playground safer for our youngest students. This year, we are focusing on upgrading our larger playground, where safety concerns are increasing and equipment is in need of repair and replacement. Please prayerfully consider donating to #iGiveCatholic this November to help us continue improving our campus for all students.
As we move into November, we give thanks for our many blessings—for our students who bring joy and curiosity to each day, for our teachers who live out their calling with passion, and for our families whose faith and support sustain our mission. Together, we continue developing Christian thought leaders who learn with purpose, serve with love, and lead with faith.
