ASCENSION HONORED AS 2019 NATIONAL BLUE-RIBBON SCHOOL
Fastest growing Catholic elementary school in the Archdiocese of Louisville honored for first time since the school’s inception 54 years ago
The U.S. Department of Education has named Ascension School a National Blue-Ribbon School for 2019. This national honor is the first received since Ascension opened its doors in 1965. Adding to the accolade is the understanding that less than one-third percent of all public and private schools achieve this honor each year.

The National Blue-Ribbon Schools Program is the highest honor any public or private elementary, middle, or high school can achieve in the United States. Since its kickoff in 1982, more than 8,500 schools have been awarded the honor.
The Department recognizes all schools in one of two performance categories, based on a compilation of student scores, student subgroup scores, and graduation rates. Ascension was named an Exemplary High Performing Schools.

Some highlights of Ascension school include:
• Offering 1:1 iPads to all students in grades K-8
• The only Catholic Elementary school in Louisville, Ky with the entire faculty being trained in Project Based Learning
• STEM-focused, with the opening of a Robotic & Technology Lab
• Departmentalized classes (faculty teaching their strongest subjects) in grades 2-8
• Small class sizes, offering an individualized learning approach

“As the fastest growing Catholic elementary school in Louisville, it’s an honor to win this prestigious award. We’ve seen our enrollment growth spike due to a commitment, as a team, to adapting within a rapidly changing digital world. This is truly a testament to our outstanding and dedicated faculty, parents and community,” said Ascension Principal Terrence Mullaney.

In November, members from Ascension will attend an awards recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. where all 2019 Blue Ribbon Schools will be honored.

PULL TABS COLLECTION Welcome back everyone. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. What better time than now to kick off our Knights of Columbus pull-tabs Competition? All proceeds benefit the Kids Cancer Alliance (KCA) and Indian Summer Camp (ISC).
KCA was started in 1981. The vision was to provide a “normal” camping experience for children with cancer. During that first summer, 20 campers attended camp. The volunteer staff consisted of doctors and nurses from the University of Louisville, as well as members of the community.
This past summer, the KCA ran four separate camps in which 241 children attended, all at no cost to them. The Knights of Columbus had breakfast with the kids, and presented KCA a check for $1000.00, generated by last year’s pull-tab competition.
KCA now provides 56 recreation and support programs, that serve more than 300 local families fighting childhood cancer.
Since 2002, we have collected nearly 23,000 pounds of tabs. So now is the time to start filling up those Ziploc bags, milk jugs and coffee cans. Every little bit helps. Together we can make a difference. For more information on Kids Cancer Alliance please visit kidscanceralliance.org or contact K of C coordinator John McCarthy at mccoots1@gmail.com.

BOX TOPS COLLECTION
Our goal is to raise $2,000+ in FREE money for our school! Ask family, friends, and neighbors to download Box Tops for you!The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn cash for our school!

Over the summer, participating brands have begun to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label.
Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build a NEW-and-improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app, available now.
The new app features state-of-the-art technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school’s earnings online.

If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing
participating products.
Please download the app and follow the instructions for setting up an account and finding our school. All you have to do is scan your receipt within 14 days of purchasing participating products, and our school earns $.10 for every box top clipped!
