FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Last week, I attended the National Catholic Education Conference in Dallas; it was a barrage of ideas, information, data and conversations/discussions with Pastors, principals, teachers, superintendents, etc – It was awesome!

In one of the sessions on Catholic Identity, we discussed one of the biggest issues facing parishes with schools – staying true to our role of forming disciples while also providing 21st century education. I’ll just tell you, there was no “grand” solution, but the conversations, and ideas stemming from them, were inspiring.

There are many ways we can accomplish both (educational excellence and Catholic Identity) and a united community is the foundation for success.

With a new mission statement being drafted by our School Board, followed by Parish Council input and finally, Fr. Adam’s approval, our hope is that we will unite behind who we are and where we are going.

There were several sessions related to mission statements and the power of them to bring our Catholic communities together – we are optimistic!

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH!
From the Archdiocese of Louisville:
“As we celebrate this Divine Mercy Sunday, let us strive to reflect God’s mercy in efforts to reduce child abuse in our community. One effort our own Archdiocese is the outreach to victims of sexual abuse by our Victim Assistance Coordinator. Martine Siegel, the archdiocesan Victim Assistance Coordinator in the Family Life Ministries Office, provides victims with assistance towards healing. If now or at any time in the past, someone representing the Church has sexually abused you, please contact the police and Ms. Siegel at 502-636-1044 or victimassistance@archlou.org

ACE DAY
ACADEMIC CURRICULUM ENHANCEMENT (ACE) day is coming up on May 24, 2023. Volunteers are needed to help with monitoring session presenters, hall supervision, outside runners, etc. Please sign up at the link below!
What is ACE Day?
Together with their teachers, staff and administrators the Ascension students work hard throughout the school year to meet academic goals. To celebrate their accomplishments and further their academic experiences Ascension provides students with an end of the year day of academic curriculum enhancement known as ACE day. On this day students participate in special activities and presentations lead by members of the Ascension community and local organizations.
The Ace planning committee organizes sessions in various areas of interest such as a presentation from the planetarium, a visit from the police and fire departments, an introductory Karate class, yoga, arts and crafts, cooking, soccer, archery, magic tricks, science experiments, pet training and much, much more. Students are given the opportunity to sign up for sessions that interest them. They will spend the day moving from one activity to another. ACE day is an exciting day for students and a great way to end the school year.

BOX TOPS COLLECTION
Did you know that Ascension is a Box Tops school? During this challenging time, our teachers and students need more help than ever. No matter what school looks like, Box Tops for Education is a fast and easy way for you to help out from home.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS: Buy participating products and use the Box Tops mobile app to scan your store receipt. The app identifies eligible products and automatically adds Box Tops to your school’s earnings online. Even if you’re shopping online or doing grocery pickup, you can still submit your e-receipts and earn Box Tops. Twice a year, our school gets a check!

The PTO uses money earned from Box Tops to fund our iPad program and other classroom needs for our students!

Here’s how YOU can help earn money for our school!
• DOWNLOAD the Box Tops app and select our school to support. This ensures that your Box Tops purchases count toward our school’s earnings.
• SHOP for Box Tops products and use the app to scan your receipt to add to our school’s earnings online.
• LOOK for any remaining Box Tops clips on packages. If you find some, clip them and send them to school!
• SPREAD THE WORD about Box Tops!
FUN TIP: You can also use the “Invite Friends” feature in the app to ask friends and family to help support our school!

Your earnings may seem small, but they really do add up. The more people that participate, the bigger the impact we can make. So let’s give our teachers the support they need and help give more kids the opportunity to dream. Little by little, we can help make a BIG difference.
